Join five writers from the Mystery Writers of America for a lively discussion of how their work, and crime fiction historically, has been informed by social issues including race, gender, religion, and sexuality. The Night of the Flood: A Novel in Stories, edited by E.A. Aymar, is an anthology of mystery writers’ stories detailing the night of the first female execution in Pennsylvania’s modern history. Dodging and Burning by John Copenhaver explores a post-World War II murder mystery set in Virginia. Lethal Lifestyles by LynDee Walker, also set in Virginia, shares a wedding murder mystery in which the groom is the prime suspect. Dark Streets, Cold Suburbs by Aimee Hix follows a young, female, private investigator in the Willa Pennington mystery series. And, Pray for the Innocent by Alan Orloff is a metafiction mystery thriller featuring a bestselling author whose spy novels inspire real-world crime, violence, and murder.
