Two authors prove how a reader’s empathy for heartache crosses time and space. Set in a small village outside of Paris, The Balcony by Jane Delury reveals the secrets kept hidden inside one estate across several generations. The inhabitants experience love and loss, peace and chaos, wealth and poverty, power and persecution becoming a “silent witnesses to a century of human drama.” Straying by Molly McCloskey is set in Ireland in the 1980’s where two young Americans start a life together and then suffer the aftermath of an extramarital affair. Many years later, the wife still struggles to understand what led her to stray.
